Staging sites and passwords
For agencies. Many staging sites ask for a username and password in a browser pop-up (this is called "Basic Auth"). TweakTick can log in to take screenshots.
Add the staging login
- Press New project and enter the site's address.
- Open Website options.
- Under Staging login (Basic Auth, optional), enter the username and password.
- Create the project.
The project page then shows Staging login saved.
How we look after it
- The login is stored encrypted and only used by our screenshot service.
- It is never shown again, not even to you.
- It is only sent to the address you entered, never to another site the page redirects to.
- Don't put the login in the address itself (like
https://user:pass@site.com). TweakTick refuses that and asks you to use the fields.
Changing the login
The login can't be edited after the project is created. If it changes, create a new project with the new login.
Other kinds of login
- A login page on the site (a form, not a browser pop-up) can't be used by the screenshot robot. Make the page public for the review, or upload your own screenshot.
- Reviewing the live site: if your client reviews on the real site with the snippet, extension or bookmarklet, their own browser asks for the staging password. Share it with them the usual way.
