Comment on text in a PDF

For clients and agencies. On a PDF, you can select the exact words you want to talk about and comment on them, instead of placing a pin.

Highlight words and comment

  1. Open the PDF review and go to the page you want.
  2. Press Select text above the page.
  3. Select the words (drag with the mouse, or press and hold on a phone).
  4. Press Comment on text.
  5. The words you picked show as Highlighted text above the comment box. Type your comment and send it.

The words stay highlighted on the page, with the comment's number next to them. To place a normal pin again, press Select text once more to turn it off, then click the page.

When "Select text" doesn't work

  • "This page has no selectable text." The page is a scan or a picture, so there are no words to select. Turn off Select text and click the page to add a pin.
  • "Select some text on this page first." Select at least one word before you press Comment on text.
  • No Select text button at all. No page of the file has selectable text (for example a scanned PDF), the file was added before this feature, or commenting is turned off for you. Pins still work wherever you can comment.

Good to know

  • It also works for Word and PowerPoint files and CAD drawings, because TweakTick turns them into PDF pages.
  • In some Arabic text, a few joined letters can show in the wrong order in the Highlighted text quote. The highlight on the page is still in the right place.
  • The highlighted words are copied from the file itself. They are not part of the sign-off record: an approval covers the page images, as before.
